America’s affordable housing crisis has never been worse.
Millions of people are in desperate need of housing – any housing – just to live normal lives. Millions more are rent-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on rent. Even the Supreme Court is tackling homelessness now.
Where there is a problem, there are problem-solvers. From Supreme Court justices to federal policymakers and heroes in local communities, there is a greater understanding that the affordable housing crisis needs to be addressed now. This is especially true in expensive cities like Los Angeles, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale, where I’m based. While luxury condominiums seem to pop up on a monthly basis, they are not accessible to the overwhelming majority of U.S. residents.
