The concept for the LA house renovation is to create an open lifestyle loft space and claim more space than physically exist while celebrating the California sky and open views to the south. Modern simple materials with sliding glass doors and a new floor replace an enclosed kitchen. The kitchen is conceived of as a part of the living space and is two sided to suggest openness yet programmed for living and cooking. A suspended glass cabinet floats above the large counter top. Maple veneer stained grey wood panels and a red linoleum kitchen floor are counterpoints to the oak floor and white box of the original 1950’s building.
