Hait Residence

Images / Description
The Hait House project is a residential renovation and addition project situated in a proto-typical south Florida suburban neighborhood with a felicitous view to a broad canal. The existing house originally built in 1957 having minimal windows and few exterior doors, exhibited closed inward focus to the interior space that required opening out the exterior walls with French doors and larger windows to natural light ad surrounding views of designed landscapes and the waterway. The new interior plan is characterized by relaxed openness and flow to and from social and private spaces. Entertaining takes place within a shared open room of living, dining and kitchen activities in turn opened to an outdoor patio, pool and cantilevered deck extending over the canal. The design strategies employed here assert reoccurring concerns to connect the inside and outside spaces of inhabitation, while positioning the human scale at the center of the making of form and space.
